Applying for a UK CAA medical:
Customer Portal & CELLMA guide

The CAA now manages all medical applications through its online Customer Portal. If it is your initial medical, or you would like to refresh your knowledge on the processes involved around CELLMA and the UK CAA portal, please see the below guide that we have created. Alternatively, you can follow the guide produced by the CAA by clicking here

How to apply for a UK CAA medical

Initial medical applicants should follow the process starting at Step 1. Applicants attending a renewal or revalidation medical (i.e., those who have previously completed an initial UK CAA medical) should proceed from Step 3.

Step 1: Create a CAA Portal Account

  • Register on the CAA Customer Portal (https://portal.caa.co.uk/) and upload a photo ID.

  • The CAA will need to verify your identity (and this can take a couple of weeks), so please do this well in advance.

Step 2: Request Access to Medical Services

  • Once Step 1 is complete, log in to the portal (https://portal.caa.co.uk/) and go to "View or apply for online Services."

  • Under "Apply to Use These Services", request access to "Medical certification for pilots and ATCOs."

  • Once approved, "Medical certifications for pilots and ATCOs" will appear in your services list.

Step 3: Apply for Your Medical on the CAA portal

  • Once the last point in Step 2 is complete, you can use the medical services.

  • Click on the "Medical certifications for pilots and ATCOs" section. A code will be sent to your registered mobile number. Input this code, and a new page appears.

  • Choose "patient login".

  • Choose the correct type (Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 or LAPL).

  • Complete the online self-assessment medical questionnaire by clicking on ANSWER to the right of the relevant medical. (Note that some fields may require entries even if they seem optional).

Note: This step does NOT book an appointment with us. It simply registers your application with the CAA.

Step 4: Pay the CAA Fee
Payment must be made before your medical can take place.

Important Information

  • All steps above must be completed before your appointment, otherwise the medical cannot be performed.

  • Take note of your UK CAA reference number.

  • Portal registration and medical access are only needed once.

  • Applying for a medical, i.e Steps 3 and 4, are required for any future medical you require.

  • i.e. for future medicals, simply follow Steps 3 and 4. (steps 1 and 2 do not need to be repeated).

  • Use your GP records to help you fill in the self-assessment.

  • If you have an ongoing medical problem, or a history of a significant medical issue, consult the UK CAA medical website for some guidance.

  • Without the above being completed prior to your medical appointment, a medical cannot be completed.

Finally, we are more than happy to assist should you encounter any issues. Please do get in touch if this occurs.
